New Features

New features since 3.1:

  • Added support for Web-based email, POP3 and IMAP access to mail, and SMTP service for incoming messages and relaying.
  • Users can now subscribe via web, emailed messages, emailed URLs, emailed digests, and unsubscribe either from a link in the notification email or on the web.
  • Folders can become email lists if messages are emailed out and email posting is enabled.
  • Added user calendars which will email reminders at an interval specified by the user.
  • WAP Interface for wireless support for HDML browsers. (requires installation of free template)
  • Several new buttons:
    • Regular-sized button "email.gif" for Email
    • Regular-sized button "emailr.gif" for You Have Email
    • Regular-sized button "calendar.gif" for Calendar
    • Regular-sized button "im.gif" for Instant Message (feature not implemented yet)
    • Regular-sized button "imr.gif" for Instant Message Waiting (feature not implemented yet)
  • Maximum Web Crossing database size is now 8 GBytes for 64-bit filesystems: Solaris 2.7, FreeBSD, Windows NT.
  • Changes to threaded interface. New command code 50 shows outline view as a default for threading if there is more than one message in the discussion. Linear views remain the same.
  • Changed terminology from "enclosures" to "attachments."
  • Changed method of uploading user pictures. (No more WebClip)
  • Added "superhosts" group for near-but-not-quite-sysop access.
  • Support for secure SSL connections for HTTPS requests and XML-RPC.
  • Can use Radius server for authentication.
  • Allow static files to be served with access control provided by Web Crossing. This allows you to use Web Crossing to control access to static files via the its normal access list machinery. Access-controlled static files are served from the htmlLinks directory, with Web Crossing links to individual files.
  • Objectionable word lists are now definable at the folder level.
  • Improved error messages for missing templates.
  • Can disable WCTL macros in local banner/footer settings.
  • Can disable quick editor and/or preserve user-entered linebreaks.
  • Can reference URLs with a "static" type syntax.
  • Added allow/deny list for news service.
  • Many SSJS and WCTL directives added.
  • Javascript hooks to process incoming mail messages.
  • Performance improvements for large attachments and folders containing hundreds of items.

  • "Pollster" template files added to useful.tpl
